Famco caps in the CC, GCC, and GCCS series use a standard base flange that requires a minimum 2-inch crown overhang on all sides for proper drainage. Signs Your Famco Crown Repair Is Failing

• Hairline cracks running from flue tile to crown edge. These form when the concrete crown lacks an expansion joint around the flue. Water enters, freezes during McKinney’s occasional hard freeze, and widens the crack. By spring, the crack is a channel.
• Spalling or flaking on the crown surface. The top layer of concrete pops off, exposing aggregate underneath. You can safely check your crown from the ground with binoculars or from a ladder at gutter height if you’re comfortable there. Look for the crack patterns and spalling described above. What you cannot safely do is pour crown repair mortar from a ladder while working over the flue opening, or remove a Famco cap that’s been wind-sealed in place. The cap weighs 15-30 pounds depending on size, and the drop to hardscape below is unforgiving.
